A district heating system with Co-generation based on absorption heat-exchange in Datong
Project Background
From 2010 to 2013, supporting the City of Datong's program "to Create a Provincial Model City in Environmental Protection", Beijing Keyuan Ruineng Energy-saving Equipment Co., Ltd. carried out large-temperature-difference retrofits of the city's thermal substations, and at the same time implemented exhaust-steam waste heat recovery at four power plants, including Huadian Datong No.1 Heat and Power Plant and Datang International Yungang Heat and Power Plant, replacing scattered coal-fired boilers with co-generation based district heating.
Project Results
After completion, the recovered waste heat increased Datong's heating area by 24.28 million square meters and saved 677,000 tons of standard coal per year, equivalent to planting 44,000 mu (about 2,933 hectares) of trees. The project fundamentally eliminated the coal-fired heating boilers, and the city's air quality improved markedly — today Datong is known as "the Sanya of Northern China".
